Cyber resilience is improving, but not fast enough.
The Business Chamber Queensland 2025 Digital Future of Work Report, released last month, found that the number of Queensland businesses hit by a cyber attack dropped from 15% in 2024 to 12% in 2025.
That is progress but the gap between awareness and readiness remains wide.
Only 10% of businesses feel highly prepared for an attack.
More than one in three admit they are still unprepared.
The average preparedness score sits at 6.2 out of 10.
These figures tell a familiar story: most organisations know what needs to be done, but are not consistently testing or updating their defences.
3 actions to prioritise before the year ends:
1. Run a tabletop exercise to rehearse how your team would respond to a breach.
2. Audit user access and remove old or unused accounts before the holidays.
3. Review detection and containment times - the faster you isolate a breach, the lower the impact.
Cyber security is no longer about avoiding attacks.
It is about minimising damage, protecting trust and maintaining business continuity when they happen.
